Ranchi, October 3: The Jharkhand State Legal Services Authority (JHALSA) has initiated steps to address the issues faced by female hockey players from Jharkhand who won gold medals at the Junior Asia Hockey Cup.
The initiative followed a newspaper report highlighting the difficulties the players and their families faced. Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad, Executive Chairman of JHALSA, directed immediate action, after which teams from the District Legal Services Authorities (DLSAs) of Gumla and Khunti visited the players’ homes to assess their circumstances and identify the support they need.

Gumla DLSA Team Visits Parvati Topno’s Home
Acting on the directive, the Gumla DALSA team visited the residence of Junior Asia Hockey Cup gold medallist Parvati Topno in Kumhar Toli village under Kamdara block.
The team met her parents, Soma Topno and Jano Topno, and gathered information about the family’s socio-economic circumstances and the government facilities they currently receive.
Family members informed the team that Parvati had left for Bengaluru for hockey training a day before the visit.
They also told the team that the household currently lacks a toilet and does not have adequate arrangements for clean drinking water.

Assistance for Toilet, Drinking Water and Welfare Schemes
The DLSA team assured the family that, in coordination with the district administration and concerned departments, necessary assistance would be facilitated to help them access government welfare schemes and basic amenities for which they are eligible.
The team also collected applications relating to the construction of a toilet, provision of safe drinking water and inclusion in other social security schemes.
The DLSA team stressed the importance of creating awareness among children and rural communities about child rights, women’s rights, free legal services, access to justice and government welfare schemes.
Khunti DLSA Visits Roshni Aind, Vinima Dhan
Meanwhile, acting on the directions of Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad, a Khunti DLSA team visited the homes of hockey players Roshni Aind and Vinima Dhan.
The team enquired about the financial circumstances of their families and the government benefits they were currently receiving.
After receiving the relevant applications, DLSA Khunti assured the families of assistance in facilitating basic amenities and welfare benefits. These include old-age pensions, caste certificates, electricity connections, toilet construction and housing.
The initiative is aimed at helping the players and their families access eligible government schemes and basic services while also ensuring awareness of legal rights and available legal aid.
