THE JHARKHAND STORY NETWORK

Daltonganj, February 11:  The daylight murder of 54-year-old woman Nameeta Devi on February 7, at Sadik Manzil Chowk in Daltonganj, has been cracked by the town police.

Three people have been arrested. Police have arrested one more person for sheltering, assisting, saving, or screening them from legal punishment.

The number of arrests goes to 4, where one is booked under section 212 of the IPC for harbouring, concealing or screening the trio.

The flash point of the murder of the woman was dull and drab.

Murder for a minor issue

There was a scuffle between Mehtab Khan and one of the two sons of the deceased woman on February 4.

The brawl enraged Mehtab so much that he conspired with Monti Pandey and Mama, and the trio decided to bump off Nameeta Devi.

Pandey and Mama executed it. It was these two who had entered the sweet shop where Nameeta Devi was sitting, and one of the two shot her to death in daylight.

Mehtab was standing outside. The trio then negotiated the river Koyel and sneaked into Garhwa.

Bablu sheltered killers

Bablu Kumar sheltered the trio, knowing they were involved in crime.

All four were remanded in judicial custody today.

SP Reeshma Ramesan held a press briefing today and unfolded the case.

She said a tiff with the son of Nameeta Devi cost her life. She said criminals do it when they kill one whose loss is mourned lifelong.

Interrupted, that flash point of the murder looked puerile, to which she said very emphatically, “Sometimes ignorable things trigger heinous acts of crime.”

Police have seized two country-made small firearms and two motor vehicles, including one bike and one cartridge of 7.65 bore.

Reeshma Ramesan reiterated that among the recovered weapons, police have recovered the weapons used in crime.

The SP said the three were caught locally while talks doing the rounds here said the assailants were caught in a place in UP. The Jharkhand Story does not confirm it.

SDPO Mani Bhushan Prasad, sitting in the SP’s press briefing today, said, “It was a daylight murder. It was the murder of a woman. The SP was monitoring the case most vigorously. It was her resolute monitoring that this case was busted in such a short period”.
