Ranchi, Nov. 20: The second phase of the Jharkhand Assembly elections concluded peacefully today, with voting conducted across all 81 constituencies. Preliminary data and trends have been received for all 81 seats. This article presents an assessment based solely on these initial trends.

This election largely revolved around the themes of Hemant Soren’s development versus Modi’s development and the insider versus outsider debate. All candidates made vigorous efforts to secure victory. Approximately 80% of the seats indicate closely contested battles. This assessment is based on early trends and available information; hence, some discrepancies may occur.

Learnings from the First Phase and Strategies for the Second Phase:

In the first phase, the INDIA alliance’s lack of coordination was evident. If the alliance had fought the elections in a more synchronized manner, their results might have been better.

Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge’s rallies were limited to Congress-dominated areas, which restricted the alliance’s overall impact.

In the second phase, Hemant Soren addressed this gap and ensured support for all alliance candidates. Kalpana Soren devoted over 90 hours to campaigning, showcasing her dedication. If the INDIA alliance succeeds, much credit will go to her efforts.

BJP and Opposition Strategies:

The BJP strongly raised issues of unfulfilled promises and corruption against the Hemant Soren government. Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma bolstered the BJP’s campaign with their strong election strategies.

Influence of JKLM and Regional Parties:

Jairam Mahto’s party emerged as a key player in this election, significantly influencing the win-loss dynamics across several constituencies.

Election Issues and Voter Priorities:

Women and Youth Voters:

Women prioritised issues such as education, safety, and family welfare, while youth focused on employment and development.

Local vs. National Issues:

Hemant Soren emphasised his government’s achievements, while the BJP positioned itself as a strong opposition, heavily criticizing the administration.

Conclusion:

Initial trends across the 81 constituencies indicate a dynamic and intense competition. There is a fierce contest between the ruling alliance and the opposition. While today’s trends provide a glimpse, a more accurate picture will emerge after the exit polls are published. This election is expected to play a significant role in shaping the political future of the state.

This list is based on the initial trends for all 81 constituencies.
