Jamshedpur, Feb 1:  Former chief minister and state BJP chief Babulal Marandi today demanded a CBI probe into the recent controversy related to the cancellation of the Jharkhand General Graduate Qualified Combined Competition (JSSC CGL) conducted by Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC).

Marandi shot off a letter in this connection to the state chief secretary (CS) L Khiyangte today.

“I would like to inform you that recently, Jharkhand General Graduate Qualified Combined Competition (JSSC CGL) was conducted by Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission in 735 examination centres in the entire state for appointment to 2025 posts. Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission called off the Jharkhand General Graduate Level Combined Competitive Examination-2023 scheduled for February 4. This decision comes after questions were leaked during the January 28 exam’s third shift (General Knowledge),” pointed out Marandi in his letter to the chief secretary.

In the letter, Marandi further said that about 6.50 lakh candidates across the state were appearing in the said examination.

“After many years, the unemployed youth of the state had got a golden opportunity, but due to repeated cancellation of the examination and the episode of question paper, the impartiality of JSSC has been questioned, the brunt of which is borne by the youths, ” he said the letter.

Question papers sold by JSSC brokers

Marandi further said in the letter that regarding the question paper leak incident, candidates from almost all the districts of the state had called him to express their concerns.

“There is an allegation of selling question paper by JSSC declared brokers in the centre for Rs 25 lakhs. Such a big question paper leak scam happened with the JSSC officials. How can it be possible without their connivance,” he questioned.

Marandi requested the chief secretary to recommend a CBI investigation into the issue of question paper leak and other irregularities in the examinations conducted by JSSC, as well as recommend an investigation of the role of other people involved and also their properties including its chairman Neeraj Sinha by the CBI.

GS paper leak led to cancellation of third shift exam

In a major upheaval, the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission decided to cancel the third shift examination of the Jharkhand General Graduate Qualified Combined Competition (JSSC CGL) held on January 28.

The move comes in response to allegations of a paper leak, particularly in the General Knowledge/General Studies section.

Candidates across various districts, including Ranchi, raised concerns, stating that crucial questions were leaked just three hours before the exam.

The leaked paper reportedly contained approximately 70 questions along with their answers, sparking a controversy.
