Ranchi: Newly appointed Jharkhand BJP in-charge and national general secretary Gajendra Singh Patel on Tuesday launched a sharp attack on the Hemant Soren government, alleging corruption, poor law and order, recruitment irregularities, failure to ensure women’s safety and inaction on infiltration.
Addressing his first press conference at the BJP state headquarters in Ranchi after a two-day visit to the state, Patel said his interactions with people and party workers had convinced him that Jharkhand was facing a “very serious” situation.
“During my two-day stay, I met people in different districts and gathered information about the situation. It has become clear to me that the situation in the state is very serious,” he said.
‘People Have Got Only Disappointment Since 2019’
Patel said the JMM-Congress-RJD government, in power since 2019, had failed to fulfil its promises.
“Since 2019, the JMM-Congress-RJD government has been in power in Jharkhand, but in the name of development, the people of the state have received only disappointment,” he said.
He alleged that the government had failed to adequately address basic needs such as health, education, roads, electricity, drinking water and irrigation, claiming that poor, tribal, Dalit and backward communities, women, farmers and youths were bearing the brunt.
BJP Alleges Loot of Natural Resources
Patel accused the government of corruption and alleged large-scale exploitation of sand, coal, stone and other mineral resources.
“This government is involved in corruption. Along with the loot of sand, coal, stone and mineral resources, the loot of DMFT funds is continuing. Water, forests and land are being openly looted. This is why the government and its head are in the dock,” he said.
He said the BJP would continue to raise these issues “from the streets to the Assembly”.
Recruitment Exams Under Fire
The BJP leader also targeted the government over recent student and youth protests, alleging that recruitment examinations had been plagued by irregularities.
He cited JPSC, JSSC-CGL, Excise Constable and PGT examinations and alleged paper leaks and other irregularities.
“Recruitment examinations have witnessed open financial transactions. JPSC, JSSC-CGL, Excise Constable, PGT and several other examinations have remained embroiled in controversies. Paper leaks and irregularities have ruined the future of lakhs of young people,” he alleged.
Patel said the government had mishandled student protests and claimed that young people across Jharkhand were angry with its policies.
Infiltration and SIR Become Political Flashpoints
Patel also accused the state government of failing to address alleged infiltration in Jharkhand, saying the BJP had repeatedly raised the issue with the government.
He also criticised the government’s opposition to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, arguing that the exercise would help ensure that genuine voters were included and ineligible names removed.
He accused the government of creating confusion among tribal communities over the issue and said the BJP would continue to raise it.
‘Criminals Are Fearless’
On law and order, Patel alleged that Jharkhand was witnessing an atmosphere of fear and accused the government of failing to protect women.
“There is an atmosphere of fear in the state. Criminals are fearless. Murders, loot, kidnapping and shootings are taking place openly. The government has completely destroyed the law-and-order situation in the state,” he said.
Patel contrasted Jharkhand with BJP-ruled states, claiming that development and governance were performing better under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
BJP Plans Wider Public Outreach
Patel also announced BJP programmes planned for October 7 as part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 75th birthday celebrations and to mark 25 years of his public service.
He said ‘Seva Jyoti Yatra’ and ‘Viksit Bharat Sankalp Sabha’ would be organised at 750 district headquarters. The programmes, he said, would focus on service, public participation and the vision of a developed India.
Patel appealed to party workers to make the October 7 programmes successful and said the BJP would work towards making Jharkhand a developed state.
He added that the party would strengthen its organisation and continue taking up public issues against what it described as the state government’s “anti-people policies”.
“We will take up people’s issues and launch movements from the streets to the Assembly,” Patel said.
BJP Leaders Attend Press Conference
State BJP president Aditya Sahu, Leader of Opposition Babulal Marandi, former Chief Minister Raghubar Das, state co-in-charges Saurabh Singh and Nivedita Singh, and state media in-charge Yogendra Pratap Singh were also present.
