RANCHI, September 4: The BJP has decided to take its campaign in support of protesting students to all 24 districts of Jharkhand after the state government failed to respond to the party’s 48-hour ultimatum demanding withdrawal of cases against students and a CBI probe into recruitment examinations.
The party has announced a four-day statewide agitation from September 8 to 11, during which BJP workers will stage protests and gherao the offices of Deputy Commissioners (DCs) and Superintendents of Police (SPs) in all district headquarters.
Protests planned across all 24 districts
According to the BJP’s schedule, protests will be held in six districts each day:
- September 8: Ranchi, Dumka, Hazaribagh, Giridih, Jamshedpur and Garhwa
- September 9: Koderma, Sahibganj, Bokaro, Palamu, Simdega and Chaibasa
- September 10: Seraikela, Pakur, Dhanbad, Gumla, Latehar and Chatra
- September 11: Ramgarh, Deoghar, Lohardaga, Khunti, Godda and Jamtara
BJP state president Aditya Sahu said the party would stand firmly with students in their demand for justice.
“Do not make the mistake of trying to silence students’ voices with legal cases. The BJP stands firmly with students in their fight for justice,” he said.
BJP demands withdrawal of cases against students
The BJP had given the state government a 48-hour ultimatum to withdraw what it termed “fabricated cases” against students and order a CBI inquiry into recruitment examinations conducted over the past seven years.
Sahu alleged that students had faced police action despite holding peaceful protests. He also alleged that students were beaten by JMM workers during the agitation and questioned why cases had not been registered against those allegedly involved.
He further alleged that police personnel had visited students’ homes at night and that coaching-centre operators were being intimidated. These allegations could not be independently verified.
Party links Jharkhand agitation with wider student protests
Sahu also compared the Jharkhand student agitation with recent student protests in Delhi, alleging that different standards were being applied by the authorities.
He claimed that while students in Jharkhand had not used abusive language during their protests, cases had nevertheless been registered against around 1,000 students. The BJP leader also questioned the state government over allegations of irregularities in recruitment examinations.
The party has demanded a CBI investigation into all recruitment examinations conducted over the past seven years, arguing that an independent probe is necessary to establish whether irregularities occurred.
BJP steps up pressure on government
Sahu alleged that the ruling Congress-JMM-RJD alliance was attempting to avoid questions raised by students through legal action and pressure tactics. He accused the government of failing to address concerns surrounding recruitment and employment.
The BJP has warned that the proposed district-level protests could be followed by a wider mobilisation involving students and their families if the government does not act on its demands.
The party has also questioned why ruling-party representatives approached Chief Secretary Avinash Kumar over the issue instead of raising the matter directly with Chief Minister Hemant Soren.
The latest agitation marks an escalation in the BJP’s campaign over the student protests, with the party now taking the issue from Ranchi to district headquarters across Jharkhand.
