Jamshedpur, October 23: Jharkhand is likely to experience spells of heavy rainfall next week as a developing weather system over the Bay of Bengal intensifies and moves towards the north Andhra Pradesh and adjoining south Odisha coasts. The system’s effects are expected to reach parts of the state from October 27, according to the latest meteorological assessment.
A low-pressure area formed over the southeast and adjoining east-central Bay of Bengal at 5.30 am on Friday, October 23, under the influence of an upper-air cyclonic circulation extending over the southeast and adjoining east-central Bay of Bengal and the Andaman Islands. The associated circulation extends up to 5.8 km above mean sea level.
System Likely to Intensify into Cyclonic Storm
The weather system is expected to persist over the region and intensify into a depression on Saturday, October 24, before strengthening into a deep depression on October 25.
It is then likely to develop into a cyclonic storm over the west-central Bay of Bengal by the morning of October 26, potentially influencing weather conditions across eastern India.
Although the system is forecast to move towards the north Andhra Pradesh and adjoining south Odisha coasts, its wider circulation could bring significant changes in weather conditions across neighbouring Jharkhand.
Heavy Rain Likely in Parts of Jharkhand on October 27 and 29
The forecast indicates two spells of possible heavy rainfall at isolated locations across the state.
On October 27, heavy rain is likely at isolated places in southern and adjoining central Jharkhand.
Another spell is possible on October 29, when north-western, southern and central parts of the state may receive heavy rainfall at isolated locations.
The intensity and distribution of rainfall will depend on the system’s development and movement as it approaches the eastern coastline.
Residents Advised to Monitor Weather Updates
Heavy rainfall over short periods may lead to localised waterlogging, traffic disruption, reduced visibility and difficulties in low-lying areas. Strong winds and rough sea conditions may also develop along the coast, depending on the system’s eventual intensity and track.
Residents, farmers and commuters have been advised to remain alert to official weather updates, particularly for October 27 and 29, and follow advisories issued by the India Meteorological Department and the local administration.
The evolving system will be closely monitored as it moves across the Bay of Bengal, with its eventual track and intensity determining the extent of its impact on Jharkhand.
