Dhanbad, Jan 17: Income Tax (IT) department teams on Wednesday morning began raiding the houses and coal Bhattha of half a dozen coal traders at different places in the district.

More than 25  IT officials of Patna and Ranchi reached here early morning and began the search operation at houses of coal traders at different locations in the coal city and near the Jharkhand–Bengal border.

Heavy contingent of the central forces are accompanying the IT officials.

The cars of IT officials were seen parked at the gate of coal trader Anil Goel, Suresh Choudhary, Mannu Singh, Dipak Poddar and Rana Ranjit Singh.  No one was allowed to go inside their houses or come out. Even their family members and domestic help were not allowed.

The IT officials were seen conducting raids at the Joraphatak Road based house of Dipak Poddar. The IT also raided the Barbadda-based Wedlock Hotel and Resort.

IT teams were also assessing papers of  Topchachi and Nirsa-based hard Coke factories of Anil Goel. A team is also conducting a search at his house based in Manaitand Ratanji Road.

The officials involved in the search operation were inaccessible to media persons due to a security cordon.
