SUBHASH MISHRA
Dhanbad, Nov 8: A French couple, Kemmy and Silpi, who have been on an Indian tour, became overwhelmed having seen the Chhath festival fervour and dedication of devotees at DVC Maithon Dam on Friday morning.
Kemmy and Silpi along with Indian friends had been on the visit of the picturesque Maithon-based DVC Dam, around 35 km away from the district headquarters. In the early morning today, they appeared to witness the Chhath festival in the Dam and were surprised to see devotees in such large numbers offering prayer and performing rituals in the water.
A staff of DVC Maithon who spotted him capturing the entire activities of Chhath Vrati, as well as devotees in his mobile, said that Kemmy was stunned to see a gathering of devotees in such a large offering and offering ‘Arghya’ to rising Sun together. He shot a picture of some ‘Vratis’ standing in dam water also after getting their permission.
The DVC staff said that Kemmy told his friend that he had visited several countries but such type of culture (devotion) he had never seen anywhere even in France. He got a new experience of a religious festival at Maithon India.
Kemmy told his Indian friends on the spot that he would take away all pictures of this unique Chhath festival and the devotion of the devotees to France to show his family members and friends there.
