Ranchi, Dec. 10: Chief Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan today said that institutions have a constitutional obligation to ensure workplaces free from discrimination, prejudice, and intimidation, while addressing a programme on “Concerns and its Strategy to Combat Challenges of Gender in the Workplace” organised at the Jharkhand High Court. He said the court is committed to strengthening a gender-just, dignified, and safe working environment across the judicial system.

Programme organised by Gender Sensitisation and Internal Complaints Committee

The event was held in the High Court premises and organised by the High Court of Jharkhand Gender Sensitisation and Internal Complaints Committee (HCJGSICC). Judges present at the programme included Chief Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan, Justice S. N. Prasad, Justice Ananda Sen, Justice Anubha Rawat Choudhary, Justice Sanjay Kumar Dwivedi, Justice Sanjay Prasad, and Justice Arun Kumar Rai.

The programme opened with the presentation of saplings and lighting of the lamp, symbolising a collective commitment to safe and inclusive workplaces within the judiciary.

Committee highlights ongoing efforts to build inclusive work culture

Justice Anubha Rawat Choudhary, Chairperson of HCJGSICC, delivered the welcome address, outlining the Committee’s ongoing work to promote gender sensitivity and fairness within the justice delivery system.

The audience also heard a presentation by Raj Shree Verma, Associate Professor at XISS and member of HCJGSICC, on strategies to address gender-based challenges in workplaces. Her session was noted for its clarity, depth, and practical approach.

Research paper competition winners present papers

The programme included presentations by the three winners of the research paper competition conducted by the Committee:

  • Priya Saw – First Prize

  • Purva Guria – Second Prize

  • Amit Kumar Mishra – Third Prize

Their papers explored workplace gender issues and possible methods to address them.

Judicial officers, advocates, and staff participate

The event saw participation from the Registrar General, Registry officers, the Secretary of the High Court Legal Services Committee (HCLSC), members of HCJGSICC, advocates, and High Court staff. Attendees welcomed the Committee’s initiative to encourage gender-sensitive and inclusive workspaces.

Vote of thanks and conclusion

Sanjay Prasad delivered the vote of thanks, acknowledging the contributions of all speakers and participants and emphasising the need to reinforce a culture of respect and equality within the institution.

The programme underscored the Jharkhand High Court’s continued resolve to strengthen a gender-just workplace through awareness, proactive measures, and improved support and redressal systems.
