Ranchi, March 13: Chief Minister Champai Soren read a riot act to the State’s top brass to control crime and illegal mining, ease traffic, and stop frauds related to the sale and purchase of land.
Holding a review meeting at Project Bhawan, the chief minister directed the officials to control the crime incidents in the State at all costs.
Soren asked the officials to review separately the criminal cases that have occurred in the State in the recent past, such as murder, dacoity, robbery, snatching, theft, cybercrime, and other various cases. He said that building a crime-free Jharkhand is his government’s priority.
Land fraud
He directed the officials to investigate criminal incidents related to land buying and selling and ensure strict action against those involved. “Those criminals who have committed incidents of murder and fraud related to buying and selling of land should be identified and punished on priority,” he said.
The chief minister asked the officials to inform people to stop opium cultivation. “To do so, an awareness campaign should be run to save the jungles by involving village committees,” he said.
Improve law and order in Dhanbad
Soren instructed the DGP that other criminal incidents, including organised crime, have been carried out in the Dhanbad district in the last few months. “The administration should keep a special eye on the maintenance of law and order in Dhanbad district,” he said.
He directed the officers to immediately complete the investigation of the incidents in Dhanbad in the past few days and ensure that the police take strict action against the culprits.
Stop vandalism at religious places
Soren told the officials that in the last few days, vandalism and other incidents have been carried out by anti-social elements at many religious places within the State. He added that the criminals involved in such incidents should be arrested immediately.
He said that criminal incidents happen in isolated places but impact the entire State. “Hence, the criminals associated with such incidents must get the harshest punishment,” he said.
Facilitate smooth traffic in Ranchi
Soren directed the officials that for the convenience of the general public, it is necessary to ease the traffic system in the city. The chief minister said that if traffic-related problems arise in the city due to various types of construction work like flyover construction, water pipeline work, construction of drains, etc., then alternative solutions to all these problems will be found to free the general public from the traffic jam problem.
The chief minister directed the officials to take action to grant permits and determine routes for auto rickshaw and e-rickshaw drivers in Ranchi. He said that the traffic problem could be solved only if work is done with a commitment to improving the operational system within Ranchi city. He directed that the passengers of the city buses run by the Municipal Corporation should ensure the determination of stops and timings so that the passengers can get convenience.
Stop illegal mining
The chief minister said that illegal mining is a big issue in the State. “The image of the State is being tarnished due to illegal mining. Special vigilance is needed to prevent illegal mining. Police should ensure legal action against people involved in illegal mining,” he said.
The chief minister directed the officials to activate the task force formed to prevent illegal mining at the state and district levels. He told the officials that all necessary steps should be taken to stop illegal mining and transportation of coal, sand, iron ore, stone and other mineral resources.
He told the officials that to stop illegal mining, not only should the vehicles be stopped and an FIR registered, but also that an investigation should be conducted into how coal is loaded in the vehicles without a challan.
He said that the coal companies’ responsibility for mining should be fixed so that coal cannot be loaded into vehicles without challan.
The chief minister said that any collusion within the system should be investigated, and strict action should be taken against the culprits.
Availability of sand
He said that the State’s tender processes for sand ghats should be expedited. “It should be ensured that sand is easily made available to the State’s people. The process of operating the 369 sand ghats identified as Category-I at the Gram Panchayat level should be completed soon. Gram Panchayat will operate 369 sand ghats in the State; only then can the demand for sand be met not only in rural areas but also in urban areas,” he said.
