Ranchi, Sept 25: Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Wednesday urged newly appointed doctors to dedicate themselves to serving the poor and strengthening the state’s healthcare system.
He was addressing the appointment letter distribution ceremony organized by the Health, Medical Education, and Family Welfare Department at the Jharkhand Ministry, where 160 assistant professors, dental surgeons, and medical officers received their appointment letters.
Calling doctors “God on earth,” Soren said people of the state, especially the poor and helpless, look to them with hope. “I am confident that through your spirit of service, you will strengthen and improve Jharkhand’s healthcare system,” he remarked.

Compassion Must Reflect in Action
The Chief Minister told the appointees that choosing health as a career brings unique opportunities. “Health is one field where your services truly matter. Your compassion for the poor and helpless must not only remain in thought but be visible on the ground, so that people can actually benefit,” he said.
He also stressed that doctors’ behavior and empathy can create a positive environment for patients alongside treatment.
Limited Resources, Greater Responsibility
Acknowledging the state’s limited resources, Soren said much can still be achieved with determination. “Patients not only need treatment but also your compassion and service. Even with limited means, passion and commitment can help bring significant change,” he added.
The Chief Minister also underlined the importance of continuous research in healthcare to address new challenges and said the government’s efforts will be strengthened with doctors’ active participation.

Collective Effort Needed to Tackle Challenges
Referring to emerging health issues, Soren noted that many diseases are man-made and require collective solutions. Citing the COVID-19 crisis, he said: “The pandemic had no cure or medicine, yet our government managed to tackle it effectively through better management.”
He further directed the Health Department to introduce a system of recognizing and honoring doctors and health workers who perform exceptionally well, to boost morale and inspire others.
Distribution of Appointment Letters
In total, 160 doctors received appointment letters — including 54 assistant professors appointed through JPSC, 55 contractual specialist medical officers under NHM, 38 medical officers, and 13 dental surgeons.
Health Minister Dr. Irfan Ansari, Additional Chief Secretary to CM Avinash Kumar, Additional Chief Secretary Health Department Ajay Kumar Singh, NHM Mission Director Shashi Prakash Jha, JMHIDP MD Abu Imran, and Special Secretary Health Dr. Neha Arora were also present on the occasion.
