Daltonganj, March 8: Daltonganj railway station under the Dhanbad division of the East Central Railway is a ‘station of women empowerment’.

The station master of this railway station is Namanti Shoshan Kujur. It is her first posting of her railway service here.

She told this correspondent, “I had never thought of doing railway job but I am lucky to have my first posting here in such a big railway station Daltonganj.”

Namanti Shoshan Kujur had a word of praise for her station superintendent Umesh Kumar.

On being asked about challenges in job she said, “Every day is a day of challenge. I learn every day. My seniors help me understand things. There is no single day when a new challenge does not crop up.”

She conceded passengers do argue with her when trains get late or complain about the railway preferring goods trains to passenger trains as passenger trains are detained but goods trains just rush through right before their eyes.

Daltonganj railway station superintendent Umesh Kumar speaking on the international women’s day said, “It’s our railway family. There is no difference of gender. A female worker does her work as sincerely as any other.”

Pinky Devi told this correspondent, “I have no problem here. When I commit mistake, I am corrected. The station superintendent Umesh Kumar is our guardian.”

Umesh Kumar talked about one lady pointsman Pushpa. She is here over the last 6 years.

Umesh Kumar said there is Pinky Devi. Both of our lady pointsmen do their jobs well.

Manisha Kumari is the commercial superintendent here and she handles the commercial aspects very smartly.

The Daltonganj railway station is safer for women and girls. Here has taken place episodes where advanced stage pregnant women have delivered babies right on the platform and the railway officials here have taken adequate care of them like rushing them to the MMCH Daltonganj in the dead of night.
