Ranchi, March 31: The veteran politician and İndependent MLA Saryu Roy today announced to contest Dhanbad Lok Sabha for defeating BJP candidate Dhulu Mahto if the Congress Party supported him.
Jamshedpur East MLA Saryu Roy, while talking with media persons here on Sunday, said that after getting a threatening call from Dubai-based Dhanbad Wasseypur’s criminal Prince Khan, he has decided to contest the election from Dhanbad.
“The voice of threatening call was of Prince Khan, but the script had been written by someone else,” said MLA Roy, who had defeated the then Chief Minister Raghubar Das in the 2019 assembly elections.
Prince Khan, a dreaded extortionist of Dhanbad, presently settled in Dubai on Friday, threatened Jamshedpur MLA Saryu Roy and Dhanbad Marwari Sammelan district president Krishna Agrawal to stop protesting BJP Dhanbad candidate Dhulu Mahto.

Krishna Agrawal and Saryu Roy both opposed Dhulu Mahto by holding a press meeting on Friday
“If the Cong party extends support to defeat Dhulu Mahto, I am ready to contest from the Dhanbad seat,” said Roy. Over the issue, he also talked with senior Cong leader Alamgir Alam (minister).
Dhanbad seat has been given to the Congress under the ruling alliance, and the Party has yet to announce its candidate.
Dhulu Mahto faces 49 criminal cases
Talking with media persons, Saryu Roy said that BJP Dhanbad candidate Dhulu Mahto is facing more than 49 cases, including murder attempts, Arms Act, loot and extortions. “I call upon 27 parties I.N.D.I. Alliance to support a clean-face candidate in Dhanbad who can defeat Dhulu Mahto. Since the Cong candidate has been defeated in Dhanbad several times if Congress supports me, I can contest the election from Dhanbad”, he said.
The veteran politician said BJP MLA Dhulu Mahto is not legally eligible to contest elections. Around 49 cases are filed against him and in four cases he has been convicted by courts.
His total punishment is four years. If an accused is convicted in more than one case, the punishment would be given on total duration under the Public Representation Act. The BJP should clarify on which basis Dhulu Mahto has been made a candidate.
MLA Suryu Roy expressed apprehension that amidst Dhulu Mahto and criminal Prince Khan, free and fair poll is not possible in Dhanbad. Both have old relations.
