Ranchi, December 23:  The Jharkhand Government on Monday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bank of India to provide an enhanced salary and pension account package for state government employees, retired personnel, and contractual staff. The agreement was signed in the presence of Chief Minister Hemant Soren at the Jharkhand Secretariat.

Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Hemant Soren said the state government is fully committed to ensuring a better working environment and financial security for government officers and employees. “As a sensitive government, we are continuously taking concrete steps for the welfare of employees who serve the state,” he said, describing the MoU as a decisive step toward long-term financial and social security for state employees.

Under the agreement, employees holding salary accounts with Bank of India will be entitled to a range of banking benefits without any additional charges. These include accident insurance coverage of up to ₹1 crore, which will increase to ₹2 crore in the event of death due to an air accident. The package also covers retired and contractual employees, providing support during service, after retirement, and in cases of medical emergencies or accidents.

The Chief Minister said the initiative reflects the government’s broader vision of empowering the last person in society socially, economically, and educationally. “Our effort is to ensure that government welfare schemes reach every individual who has remained deprived of development,” he said, adding that banks play a crucial role in delivering these benefits effectively.

Highlighting the role of financial institutions, Hemant Soren said banks are key partners in the inclusive development of Jharkhand. “Through banks, the benefits of many important government schemes are reaching the common people. In the coming years, the role of banks will become even more significant,” he said, expressing confidence that more banks would come forward to collaborate with the state government.

On the occasion, the Chief Minister also handed over a cheque of ₹50 lakh as financial assistance under the Government Salary Package to Mrs. Manju Lakra, wife of Pramod Lakra, a JBVNL employee who lost his life in an accident.

The MoU was signed by Sandeep Singh, Special Secretary, Finance Department, on behalf of the Jharkhand Government, and Sanjeev Kumar, Deputy General Manager, Ranchi Zone, Bank of India. Bank of India Executive Director Subrat Kumar and General Manager Guru Prasad Gond were also present.

Finance Minister Radha Krishna Kishore, Chief Secretary Avinash Kumar, Development Commissioner Ajay Kumar Singh, Finance Secretary Prashant Kumar, along with senior officers and a large number of employees, attended the event.
