Ranchi, September 13: The Jharkhand High Court on Friday heard a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) regarding the provision of health insurance for the state’s 33,000 lawyers.
During the hearing, chaired by Acting Chief Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad, Jharkhand State Bar Council President Rajendra Krishna, argued that the state government has decided to provide health insurance only for 15,000 lawyers from the trustee committee, despite there being 33,000 lawyers in the state.
He emphasized that all lawyers should be covered by health insurance and also requested that the health scheme be extended to their families.

Jharkhand govt directed to respond
The court was informed that all lawyers would also be included in the trustee committee. The bench directed the state government to file a response. The government informed the court that a decision would be made and communicated soon.
The PIL requests that health insurance be provided for all lawyers in the state.
Notably, on January 7, Chief Minister Hemant Soren had a direct dialogue with the state’s lawyers, during which he promised to include them in health and life insurance schemes. Following this, the government decided in a cabinet meeting to provide insurance for approximately 15,000 lawyers who are members of the trustee committee.
