PINAKI MAJUMDAR

Jamshedpur, Jan 9: Jharkhand continued to reel under severe winter conditions on Friday, with Khunti recording the season’s lowest minimum temperature of 1.5°C, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Ranchi.

The Realised Weather Report, based on observations at 8:30 am, confirmed the prevalence of cold wave conditions across several districts.

IMD said Daltonganj, Chaibasa, Bano (Simdega), Khunti and Bokaro were officially under cold wave influence, as minimum temperatures remained well below normal across most parts of the state.

Ranchi recorded a minimum temperature of 7.3°C, while Jamshedpur stood at 8.4°C. Daltonganj reported 3.2°C, and Bokaro recorded 5.1°C, highlighting the intensity of the winter chill.

Fog reduces visibility

Cold conditions were further aggravated by dense fog, with the lowest visibility of 700 metres reported at Deoghar during morning hours.

No rainfall was recorded anywhere in Jharkhand in the past 24 hours. Meteorological officials have advised people to take adequate precautions, especially during early morning and night, as cold wave conditions are likely to persist over the next few days.
