Jharkhand: Junior doctors’ body, IMA joint delegation meet health minister over demands

Dhanbad, Feb 24: A joint delegation of Junior Doctors Network (JDN), Indian Medical Association (IMA) and post graduate students of Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College Hospital (MGMMCH) Jamshedpur met health minister Banna Gupta at his residence in Jamshedpur and submitted three points demand.

JDN state secretary Dr Raghuvendra Kumar giving this information said that the delegation had gone to wish the health minister for assuming charge of the health department at his Jamshedpur residence in the afternoon but on the occasion some issues being faced by junior doctors, students were also placed before him.

What are the demands?

JDN secretary said the delegation requested the health minister to consider the reduction in the bond period of doctors in the state. As per state government regulation, post graduate students of medical colleges have to give three years of bond service after passing out.

The delegation also demanded an increment of stipend for senior residents, junior residents (non-academic) and interns of medical colleges of the state. Besides it, the joint delegation also asked the health minister to restore the facility of the auditorium and playground for under graduate MBBS students of MGMMCH Jamshedpur.

Health Minister gives assurance for consideration

“The health minister assured us to consider positively on our demands and said that interested people (doctors) can meet him in person and share their concerns”, said Dr Raghvendra Kumar, who is also president of the Junior Doctors Association of MGMMCH Jamshedpur.

After the formation of the JDN Jharkhand chapter in January, this is the first time its office-bearers have met the health minister.

Dr Ranjan Kumar Mehta, Dr Shubham Kumar, Dr Fuzail Akram, Dr  Bobby Kumari, Dr Manish Kumara, Dr Vikash Kumar, Dr Jahagir Kumar, Dr Yash Jaishwal, Dr Nikhil Kumar, Dr Sunil Kumar and Dr Krish Kumar were members of the delegation.
