Jharkhand News: 13-member squad announced for Ahmedabad athletics’ meet

Dhanbad, Jan 16: The 13-member boys and girls squad of Dhanbad has been announced for the National Inter-District Athletics Championship to be held in Ahmedabad (Gujarat) from February 16 to February 18.

Announcing the names of selected boys and girls athletes, Dhanbad District Athletics Association general secretary Bandhan Toppo said athletes were picked up on the basis of performance in a trial competition held last month.

The selected athletes are:

Boys under 14- Md Irshad, Indrajit Mahto, Aditya Kumar Tiwary,

Boys under 16- Kumar Naman, Uttam Kumar Rajwar, Monu Kumar.

Girls under 14-  Nilakai Gorai, Saisa Lal, Smriti Singh, Sandhya Rani and Riya Kumari.

Girls under 16- Jaya Kumari and Sharda Hansda

Jayaram Bhagat has been appointed manager of the team. General Secretary Toppo said some selected players were axed from the squad due to being over age.

“A special training camp would be held for these selected athletes so that they could win maximum medals in the national championship,” said Bandhan Toppo, who was himself a national athlete in his prime time.
