Ranchi, May 27: Dr Sailesh Chattopadhyay, University Professor-cum-Chief Scientist & Head, Department of Forest Biology & Tree Improvement, Faculty of Forestry, Birsa Agricultural University (BAU) has been nominated as a member of the Research Advisory Committee (RAC) of Central Sericultural Research and Training Institute (CSR&TI), Berhampore, West Bengal. The Institute is a part of the Central Silk Board working under the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India.
The tenure of the committee will be for three years and it will meet once in six months for two days in the institute.

The terms of reference of the RAC includes reviewing the overall R&D activities of the institute and its attached units and providing directions to deal with specific field/ industry problems in the mandated areas of the institute.
The committee will set priority for research projects based on focus areas. The RAC will also suggest ways and means of utilizing the outcome from the concluded projects for enhancing quality silk production aiming at the wellbeing of the stakeholders.
Dr Swarup Kumar Chakraborti, plant biotechnologist and former Vice Chancellor of Uttar Bang Krishi Vishwvidyalay, West Bengal has been appointed chairperson of the reconstituted RAC of the institute.
