Dhanbad, April 14: Bengali Kalyan Samite on Sunday celebrated Poila Baisakh (their New Year) by taking out an attractive Prabhat Pheri in the coal city and organizing cultural programmes.
The Prabhat Pheri, comprising mostly women and children, started at JC Mallick Road and after crossing through Durga Mandir, Park Market, Hirapur Court quarters, terminated at the famous Hirapur Harimandir campus.
The participants were clad in traditional white Saree with red border (women) and Bhadralok in Dhoti–Kurta, Pyjama

Bangla songs and dance performed by Bangla artists on road during Prabhat Pheri were the centre of attraction for the people. At every roundabout when Prabhat Pheri reached, students of different schools of coal city performed cultural programmes especially dance based on Bangla songs.

Bengali Kalyan Samiti secretary Kanchan Dey said that though Samiti takes out Prabhat Pheri every year on the occasion of Poila Boishakh, this year they decided to welcome Bangla Sal 1431 in grand way with special cultural programme.

The students of Shampa Mukherjee Dance Academy, Guru Sur Nritya Sangam Dhanbad. Saraswati Sen Dance Academy Jharia, Nritya Mallicka Dance Academy, Aradhana Dance Academy Manatand and Sadhana Dance Academy performed cultural programmes during the Prabhat Pheri.
Besides them, senior artists Rudradeep Chatterjee, Anusri Banerjee, Arjit Banerjee, Nirjhar Bakxi, Kusan Sengupta and Dr Sujata Chatterjee displayed superb performance. Dr Sujata Chatterjee and Sujit Rai stole the limelight by reciting poems of Thakur Rabindra Nath Tagore.
On the occasion former Mayor Chandrashekhar Agrawal, his wife Beena Agrawal were chief guest and participated in the Prabhat Pheri.
Cultural secretary of the Samiti Vikash Kant, Indrajit Chatterjee, Arun Banerjee, Shyam Banerjee, Kumkum Banerjee also participated in the Prabhat Pheri.
On the occasion Bangali Kalyan Samite felicitated Sanchita Bakxi, Samridhi Choudhary, Ankita Banerjee, Shampa Banerjee, Arti Saw, Saraswati Sen and Shrotoswani Rai.
