Dhanbad, April 29: Dr Kunal Thakur of Dhanbad has achieved an impressive 26th All India Rank (AIR) in the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) for super-speciality courses.

He has qualified for the MCh (Master of Chirurgiae) in Head and Neck Oncology – a highly specialised field focusing on the diagnosis and treatment of cancers originating in the head and neck region, including the mouth, throat, sinuses, and salivary glands.

The NBEMS results were announced on April 26. The NEET SS exam, which determines eligibility for super-speciality medical courses, was held on March 29 and 30.

Legacy Continues: Son of renowned ENT professor of SNMMCH, Dhanbad

Dr Thakur is the son of Dr A.K. Thakur, retired Professor and Head of the ENT Department at Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH), Dhanbad. He completed his MBBS from the Manipal Institute of Medical Sciences (MIMS), Gangtok, Sikkim, and earned his MS in ENT from Sri Devaraj Urs Medical College, Kolar, Karnataka.

A senior faculty member at SNMMCH noted that Head and Neck Oncology is one of the most challenging and focused branches within oncology, requiring deep expertise and precision.

Doctors across Dhanbad have extended their heartfelt congratulations to Dr Thakur. They remarked that his achievement is a source of immense pride for Dhanbad and the entire state of Jharkhand, as a young local doctor has earned distinction at the national level.
