Ranchi, May 6: DPS Ranchi hosted a training session aimed at IT teachers from schools enrolled in the Structured Assessment for Analyzing Learning (SAFAL) 2024-25 programme.

The session, organized by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), saw participation from 185 teachers from the state of Jharkhand eager to enhance their understanding of the assessment program.

The resource person leading the session was Amit Dutta, IT Master Trainer. The session was graced by the presence of Deepanshu Goyal, Assistant Secretary (Academics), CBSE, New Delhi and Dr. Ram Singh, CBSE City Coordinator cum the Principal of DPS Ranchi.

SAFAL, an assessment initiative aims to provide a comprehensive evaluation of students’ learning levels. The programme’s primary objective is to identify areas of strength and weakness in students’ learning journeys, facilitating targeted interventions to improve learning outcomes.

What is SAFAL?

SAFAL is a competency-based assessment for Grades 3, 5 and 8 to assess the progress of foundational skills and basic learning outcomes and competencies among students. SAFAL, as a diagnostic assessment, will also provide developmental feedback to schools and teachers to improve teaching-learning without additional examination pressure on students.

SAFAL will be conducted on a pilot basis in CBSE schools for students in Grades 3, 5 and 8 during the academic year, in key curricular areas of Language, Mathematics, and EVS/Science.

During the training session, participants received detailed briefings on the technical aspects of the SAFAL assessment platform.

Discussions also centred around potential challenges and troubleshooting methods to ensure the smooth conduct of the assessment process. Moreover, participants gained insights into the examination process, including registration procedures and result declaration protocols.

Pivotal role of educators

In his address, Deepanshu Goyal emphasised the pivotal role of educators in shaping the educational landscape. He underscored the importance of initiatives like SAFAL in enabling teachers to better understand and address students’ learning needs. He urged participants to leverage the knowledge gained from the training session to drive positive change in their classrooms.

Educational excellence

Dr. Ram Singh highlighted the significance of collaborative efforts in fostering educational excellence. He commended the commitment of the participating teachers towards enhancing their pedagogical skills. Encouraging them to embrace innovation and adaptability, he expressed confidence in their ability to make a profound impact on learning outcomes.

The training session concluded on a note of enthusiasm and determination, with participants equipped with newfound knowledge and strategies to effectively implement the SAFAL assessment programme in their respective schools.
