Dhanbad, March 11: In a webinar organised by the Career Development Centre (CDC) of BIT Sindri, experts discussed the need for personal data security in the digital era.

Secure Network Solutions

N K Mehta, founder and chief executive officer (CEO) of Secure Network Solutions, was the principal speaker of the webinar, and he emphasised the importance of safeguarding personal data in today’s interconnected world.

He highlighted how personal, political, and organisational data are susceptible to exploitation and misuse.

CDC Chairman Dr Ghanshyam

CDC Chairman Dr Ghanshyam, shedding light on the session, said that the webinar aims to educate the participants about the vulnerabilities associated with personal data in the digital age and provide them with actionable insights to safeguard their data from potential threats.

Mobile data security

One of the key topics discussed during the session was mobile data security. Chief speaker Mehta described mobile data as a gold mine for telemarketers and outlined various ways in which mobile data can be exploited, including through calls, SMS, and social media platforms like WhatsApp.

He emphasised precautions against opening emails from unknown sources, suspicious attachments and lottery or good luck emails.

Strong and unique passwords

Creating strong and unique passwords for email accounts was also recommended. Mehta provided a comprehensive list of precautionary measures to prevent data theft, including registering for DND (Do Not Disturb), being wary of OTP (One-Time Password) and SIM-swap frauds, avoiding clicking on random links, and using anti-malware protection.

BIT Sindri CDC Chairman Dr Ghanshyam highly appreciated the programme coordinator for organizing an informative and engaging webinar in which participants were given practical tips on protecting their personal information in the digital realm.

“I sincerely appreciate N. K. Mehta for sharing his expertise and invaluable insights on personal data security,” said Dr Ghanshyam.

He said the knowledge gained from this webinar will benefit the participants personally and professionally. “The Career Development Centre at BIT Sindri remains committed to organising such impactful events in the future to enhance the skill sets and knowledge of our students and faculty members,” he added.
