Jamshedpur, July 17: The police and paramilitary forces have recovered firearms following an encounter at Saranda jungle in West Singhbhum on Wednesday.

The encounter was reported to have taken place between paramilitary forces and a Naxal squad belonging to a hardcore rebel leader Anmol da.

Significantly, Anmol da who is among the top leaders of the outlawed outfit CPI-Maoist carries a reward of Rs 1 crore on his head and has been hiding in the Saranda forest for the past couple of years.

Naxals retreated leaving some weapons behind

The encounter continued for a considerable period with short intervals, but in view of the super firepower of the paramilitary forces, the Naxals retreated in fear of getting neutralized.

West Singhbhum SP, Ashutosh Shekhar confirmed about the encounter with the Naxals in Saranda on Wednesday morning but declined to give the details immediately except that the police and paramilitary forces have recovered several firearms from the encounter spot.

“There was an encounter with the Naxals in Saranda this morning. The Naxals fled the scene after a while leaving some of their weapons. The firearms recovered from the encounter scene are being assessed, ” said the SP while speaking to The Jharkhand Story, adding that they would issue a press release to this effect later on.
