Dhanbad, February 19: Assistant Professor Aarti Kumari, department of Fuel Mineral and Metallurgical Engineering, IIT Indian School of Mines (ISM) Dhanbad, has been selected for the Young Engineers Award of 2023-24 by the Institution of Engineers India (IEI) in the field of metallurgical and material engineering.
A PhD degree holder in ‘Hydrometallurgical Processing of Spent NdFeB Magnet for Recovery Rare Earths’ from the Academy of Scientific and Academic Research, Prof Aarti has researched extractive metallurgy, non-ferrous metal extraction, Metal extraction from Primary-secondary resources via metallurgical pathways, extraction of strategic metals from lean grade ores and wastes.

AWSAR Award
She received the AWSAR Award from the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, for her research article ‘Today’s Waste is Tomorrow’s Wealth: Recovery of Rare Earth from Waste Magnets of Wind Turbines’ in 2019.

Before joining IIT ISM Dhanbad, Aarti Kumari worked as a Senior Scientist at CSIR-National Metallurgical Laboratory, Jamshedpur, from 2019 to 2022 before working as a Scientist in the same organisation from 2015 to 2019.
