Dhanbad, April 22: Dr Somanth Chattopadhyay, HoD mechanical engineering IIT Indian School of Mines (ISM) Dhanbad said that effective monitoring of machines’ condition is the need of the hour to achieve the mission of ‘Viksit Bharat ‘ by 2047.
Dr Chattopadhyay, who was addressing a two-day workshop on ‘Condition Monitoring Machines’ as chief guest at IIT ISM Executive Development Centre, said that in order to achieve the target of ‘Viksit Bharat ‘of Prime Minister Narendra Modi one needs to carry out lot of infrastructure development, large number of machines and condition monitoring of machines.
“With the advancement in technology, digital tuning of machines has now become operational and we can know the real condition of machines,” said Chattopadhyay.
He further said that the workshop provides the opportunity to learn about basic maintenance processes and also various vibration & acoustic sensors and their working principles and applications.

He pointed out that the role of machines, particularly the large machines like tunnel bore machines are required for infrastructure development.
Participation of 45 researchers
Dr Madanlal Chandravanshi, Assistant Professor of the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Course Coordinator gave details of the training, while Dr Sachin Kumar Singh, Associate Professor of the same department cum Co-course coordinator, said that in the present times machine learning is replacing traditional technology like system modelling.
In the workshop altogether 45 researchers from various laboratories, UG/PG students, faculty members and research scholars from across the country participated and learnt about various aspects of vibration analysis and fault analysis of machines.
Officials said 28 participants attended the workshop in offline mode, while 17 others attended the same in online mode and learnt about signal processing technique, noise analysis using 22,760 hand held analyzer vibration and post processing of vibration data in ME and scope software during the theoretical classes in training in laboratories.
