Dhanbad, February 21: Prof Rajendra Bharti of Kolhan University Chaibasa has been elected zonal secretary of the All India Federation of University College Teachers Organization (AIFUCTO), while five other professors of different universities of the state have been nominated to the National Executive Committee (NEC).

Five executive members are Prof NK Singh (SKMU Dumka), Prof Raj Kumar (Ranchi University), Prof Santosh Sil (SKMU Dumka), Prof SK Singh and Prof Idal Paswan (Kolhan University Chaibasa)
According to the list of office bearers issued by AIFUCTO president Dr M Nagrajan and general secretary Prof Arun Kumar, Prof Rajendra Bharti of Kolhan University has been elected zonal secretary. After the 1990 decade, this was the first time the zonal secretary was elected from Jharkhand.
Prof (rtd) GC Jha of VBU
Earlier in the 1990s, Prof GC Jha (now retired) of Vinoba Bhave University Hazaribagh was elected twice as zonal secretary: First time for East Zone and 2nd time from North East Zone. Prof Jha hailed the election of Jharkhand’s professors to the teachers’ national body.

Dr Bharti (at present acting registrar of KU) was president of the Kolhan University Teachers Association.
National executive committee member Prof Navin Kumar Singh (Sido Kanhu Murmu University) is the outgoing president of the Federation of Universities Teachers Association of Jharkhand (FUTAJ), the frontal organisation of university college teachers of the state, while Prof Raj Kumar (Ranchi University) is general secretary. Dr Singh retired last year in May.
Prof Santosh Kumar Sil is the general secretary of the Sido Kanhu Murmu University Teachers Association (SKMUTA). He has been elected based on relentless agitation launched by him for the welfare of teachers.
Kolhan University Teachers’ Association
Prof Sanjay Kumar Singh and Prof Indal Paswan are the president and general secretary of the Kolhan University Teachers Association (KUTA) Chaibasa. Prof Singh was senior vice president of KUTA. In December, when Prof Bharti resigned from the post of president, Dr Singh became the association’s new president.
