Dhanbad, May 24: Now station masters of Dhanbad Rail Division of East Central Railway (ECR) zone will do only two nights duty in a week.
The Railway headquarters administration has directed the personnel department of all divisions to prepare a ‘Two Nights Roster’ for station masters and implement it at all stations immediately.
British era rule of 7-night duty ends
Giving this information, Md Ziauddin, additional general secretary of East Central Railway Karmchari union (ECRKU), the recognized union of railway employees, said that the British era rule of 7-night duty for station masters in a week has ended. Now, station masters will do duty only two nights a week.
Md Ziauddin said that the ECRKU had been demanding this Two Nights Roster for the station masters for a long. Even at the meeting of Permanent Negotiating (PNM), the issue was raised regularly. “Now finally our struggle worked and the management has decided to follow a two-night roster,” he said.

122 railway stations under Dhanbad division
Under the Dhanbad Rail Division, there are more than 122 railway stations and at least four station masters work at each station.
“The process is in the final phase and station masters will get major mental and physical relaxation from 7 nights of hard duty,” said Ziauddin.
Plea for 2-night roster for points men too
The ECRKU leader said that the nature of Points Men who connect tracks) is similar to the station master. So, the union will try to implement the two-night roster also for them, he added.
Station masters and Pointsmen of Dhanbad Rail Division have hailed the new roaster plan and thanked ECRKU leaders for bringing major relaxation from the hard duty of 7 nights in a week.
