Daltonganj, February 3: A dialogue of the ace actor Shah Rukh Khan in the blockbuster film ‘Om Shanti Om’, used by DC Shashi Ranjan, the district election officer, took the gathering of the young and some old girl voters by storm.
Shashi Ranjan was gracing a workshop on the electoral literacy club of the YSN Mahila College.
At one point in his speech, he decided to speak the dialogue of Shah Rukh Khan.
He needed the beginning. Sitting close to him was the city commissioner, Md Jawed Hussain, IAS.
Hussain reminded him of the exact text of the dialogue of Shah Rukh Khan, (Agar kisi cheez ki shiddat se chaho to puri kayanat u-se tumasey milane mein lag jati hai—If you want something passionately then the whole universe works to bring you to it) and the DC, with full passion on his face, said the dialogue of Shah Rukh Khan. The girls went into rapture. He took it for sure that every word of him now would be heard by the girls with rapt attention.
He knew a stale speech would be monotonous. It could be boring, too. He was not wrong.

He used the dialogue of a trendy actor. However, the DC was careful not to imitate Khan’s voice as he was equally sure he would make himself poor if he tried copying Shah Rukh Khan. He said the dialogue in his way clearly and intelligently.
He asked the first-time female voters to cast a vote; otherwise, they would repent for not using their right to vote for five full years.
Public Service Commission examination
One in the gathering asked the DC if her coming from rural scape is a bottleneck to her aspiration to crack the public service commission examination, to which Shashi Ranjan said, “It’s a brilliant question. It needs to be threadbare discussed. I know students of Ruralscape are cracking the Public Service Commission examination. But there are challenges galore.”
He talked about opportunities and asked the girls to take advantage of them.
YSN Mahila College
Girls of the YSN Mahila College had coined lovely slogans and catchy lines to promote the votes to be cast.
One slogan was, “Your one vote can rock the boat’. This slogan appealed to Shashi Ranjan, so he got it up for others to read.
The female students of the Home Science department had today opened a food plaza on the campus where there were one or two ear-pleasing slogans for voting on every table.
Food plaza
DC Shashi Ranjan tasted a few items on sale in the food plaza arranged by the girls and paid for them, too.
Some of the girls wore chef looks and showed exemplary salesmanship.
Professor in charge of the YSN Mahila College, Dr Mohini Gupta, said, “My team of young teachers, along with the elder ones, has got it done. My non-teaching team, too, worked hard for it.”
