THE JHARKHAND STORY NETWORK

Daltonganj, July 2: The Department of Women, Child Development and Social Security, Government of Jharkhand, has notified the formation of the CWC (Child Welfare Committee) along with empanelling two civil society members in the Juvenile Justice Board here.

Three different notifications, issued on the same date, June 25, by Under Secretary Vikrama Ram of the Jharkhand Women Child Development and Social Security Department, asks the selected ones to join their situations within one week from the date of the issuance of the notifications, respectively.

Shailendra Nath Chaturvedi has been selected as the president of the Child Welfare Committee here in Palamu. His tenure will be of three years. He is to give his joining to the District Social Security Officer.

Two Empaneled to Juvenile Justice Board

Two civil society members, namely Rekha Kumari and Kalpana Tiwary, have been empaneled to the Juvenile Justice Board here. This arrangement is of three years in accordance with the provisions of the Jharkhand Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection) Rules 2017.

These two members will have their training conducted by the state department of Woman, Child Development and Social Security for the dispensation of juvenile justice. The tenure of each of the two will be of three years. Powers enshrined in the 2023 BNS will be vested in these members.

CWC Reconstituted with Three Members

The state department of Women, Child Development and Social Security has constituted the CWC, albeit provisionally, by selecting three members on the recommendations of the selection committee.

The three members of the CWC as notified are Ravi Shankar Kumar, Jitendra Kumar Pal and Poonam Vishwakarma. Each of these three are to report to the District Social Security Officer within a week from the date of issuing of the notifications, which is June 25.

CWC Revived After Controversy at Shelter Home

Administrative sources said the CWC here was dissolved in the wake of an alleged sexual assault of ‘a single inmate’ of the girls’ shelter home in Daltonganj last year.

There was a huge public outrage over this incident, following which little over two dozen girl inmates of the shelter home here were shifted to Ranchi based girls’ shelter home. The then office of girls’ shelter home in Daltonganj was sealed.

Now, as the CWC has got a president and three members, it is most expected that the girls sent to Ranchi may be brought here if and when a new shelter home for them is set up.

District Social Welfare Officer Neeta Chouhan has confirmed the issuance of these three notifications, saying all the incumbents are to give their joining to the District Social Security Officer instead of the District Social Welfare Officer.
