Daltonganj, May 18: Python in the water trough! It was sighted in a water trough in road number 3 of the Betla National Park.

This around 8-foot-long rock python was enjoying the water in this intense heat.

It was spotted by a dedicated forest guard Niranjan Kumar. He saw this rock python eating a water bird.

Like a true and sincere worker of wildlife, Niranjan didn’t disturb this rock python having its food in the water bird.

The python later slithered into the jungles when Niranjan revisited this water trough after 2 hours.

Forest guard’s service protocol

The dedication to work and adherence to service protocol is such with Niranjan who declined to share information about the python in the water trough without first seeking permission from the deputy director north division of PTR P K Jena.

The Jharkhand Story correspondent then sent the text to Jena urging him to ask this forest guard Niranjan to send the picture of a python in the water trough.

Niranjan did it only when he got to do it from the deputy director north division of PTR P K Jena.

Proud moment for Betla National Park

It’s a proud and happy moment for the Betla National Park where such coordination is working between the deputy director north division and the ground staff.

Pythons are quite a common sight in the jungles of the tiger reserve Palamu. It quite often enters the houses and shops of the people.

Now, snakes are not killed at first sight. It is rescued.  It is saved from harm like stoning by children.

There has come a big change in the attitude of people towards the snake. The change is the death penalty is not awarded to the snake for trespassing or intruding on any human habitat.

PTR personnel are informed about the snakes who rush in to rescue the snake. Villagers extend cooperation.

Some 15 or 20 years ago the sighting of the snake would have meant any amount of bedlam like villagers rushing and screaming with vengeance at the snake with whatever their hands had like stone, stick or even spears!

PTR has now its self-raised quick-response team that rushes to save and rescue the snake. It has won appreciation from the general public.
