Jharkhand News: SNMMCH Dhanbad set to get NMC nod to offer PG courses in 3 more subjects

Dhanbad, May 24: Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH) Dhanbad is set to get postgraduate (PG) seats permission in three more subjects, surgery, orthopaedics and obstetrics and gynaecology soon from 2024-25 session.

Based on faculty strength, the medical college had applied for PG course permission in seven subjects but the National Medical Commission (NMC) has given it in one subject (medicine) and rejected the application for pathology, anaesthesia and biochemistry.

NMC sent a letter of permission only in the medicine ( six PG seats) department on Wednesday to SNMMCH.

SNMMCH faculty strength

SNMMCH nodal officer for NMC  affairs Dr Ravi Bhushan today said that since the faculty strength of the institution in three other subjects, surgery, orthopaedics, obstetrics and gynaecology is strong enough we are hopeful for permission soon.

“First, each department has a professor, associate professor and assistant professors required for launching a PG course. Moreover, NMC has not rejected the application of these subjects. So, we are hopeful a permission mail will come soon,” said nodal officer Dr Ravi Bhushan.

SNMMCH surgery department

As per strength, the SNMMCH surgery department has one professor (Dr SK Chourasia), three associate professors ( Dr Anil Kumar, Dr Bakhla, Dr Dinesh Kumar Gindauria) and four assistant professors (Dr Vishnu Singh Munda, Dr Aftab Ahmed, Dr Jitendra Ranjan, Dr Rajesh Kumar Singh.

Former superintendent and one of the senior faculty members Dr Anil Kumar pointed out that the surgery department has full strength and it will get the highest number of PG seats.

The Orthopaedics department has also a professor ( Dr DP Bhushan), two associate professors ( Dr Sunil Kumar and Dr Vijay Pratap Sinha) and two assistant professors (Dr Rahul Kumar Chandan, and Dr Pappu Marandi).

Obstetrics and gynaecology department 

The obstetrics and gynaecology department also has strengths as per NMC guidelines with senior most one professor (Dr Pratibha Roy), senior most one associate professor (Rajlaxmi Tubitt), two experienced assistant professors (Dr Priyanka Choudhary, Dr Anita Kumari Purti) to get the desired number of PG seats.
