Dhanbad, March 4: On Monday, the ENT department of Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH) Dhanbad launched a special screening and awareness camp to mark World Hearing Day.

Over 130 different age groups registered patients were screened, treated and given tips about protecting hearing and avoiding complications.

ENT head of the department, Dr Jayant Chakraborty, said that though World Hearing Day is celebrated on March 3 every year, due to Sunday yesterday, his department celebrated today (March 4) so that maximum patients could attend the camp.

“The main reasons for hearing loss are infection and other complications. So, we focused on awareness of people how to protect,” said HoD Dr Chakraborty. He further said this year’s World Hearing Day theme is ‘ Changing Mindsets, Let’s make hearing care a reality for all’; keeping this in mind, we made patients aware.

The team of ENT doctors, Prof Dr Ashutosh Kumar, Dr S Rana, Dr Vijiya Balam Murmu, Dr Rajdeep, Dr Baski, Dr Soma, Dr Bipul, screened the registered and treated them, “The patients were also provided medicines free of cost and were advised to come again for a check-up,” said HoD Dr Chakraborty.

Interns Dr Shubham Arya, Dr Jigyasa Mohan, Dr Komlata Kujur, Dr Aslam Parvez, Dr Nashara Khan and Dr Karan Mahto made the celebration a success by attending and screening the patients with seniors.

Dr Chakraborty said the department’s staff, Kamleswer, Rakesh, Dinesh, Raghav Mahto and Ganesh Chakraborty, participated in celebrating World Hearing Day.
