Dhanbad, January 11: The Joint Front of national and regional recognised trade unions called off today’s proposed indefinite coal dispatch blockade agitation in Lodna Colliery Area of Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) at the request of the chairman cum managing director and the director (personnel) of the company.
Demonstrations at Koyla Bhawan
However, as their other scheduled programme, trade unions held demonstrations at the headquarters of Koyla Bhawan and Area offices in protest against the Mine Developer Operator (MDO) policy.
Powerhouses facing coal crisis
“The CMD pleaded that powerhouses in the country are facing a coal crisis. The stir against coal dispatch in colliery would aggravate the crisis further. So, they should call off the stir for the time being,” said AK Jha, general secretary of Rashtriya Colliery Mazdoor Union (RCMU).

15-day timeframe to resolve the issue
Jha said that the BCCL chairman cum managing director (CMD) and the director personnel (DP) requested the Joint Front leaders to give them 15 days to take up the issue with the government. So, on their request, coal dispatch blockade agitation has been cancelled, he added.
Notably, various trade unions had served notice to the BCCL management for blockade of coal dispatch from Lodna Colliery from January 11 for an indefinite period in protest against the decision of the coal company to give Lodna Colliery mines to a private party on Mine Developer Operator (MPO) mode.
On December 31, trade unions stopped coal dispatch from Lodna Colliery as a token strike in protest of the management’s policy.
