Dhanbad, Jan 5: The West Singhbhum district association will hold the 4th Navin Kumar Sinha Memorial All India Open Rapid Chess Tournament for Rs 1 lakh cash prize at St Xavier Welfare Centre Chaibasa on January 21.

Basant Kumar Khandelwal said that so far, 40 rating players from different states have submitted their entries to the tournament. In this one-day rapid championship, a total of nine rounds would be held. Each round would be in 10 minutes +5 seconds increment format.

Grih Laxmi Sales and Marketing has sponsored the tournament.  Jharkhand’s International Arbiter, Dipak Kumar, would be the chief arbiter. The last date for filing entry in the tournament is January 19.

Nitin Prakash, the patron of the West Singhbhum District Chess Association, said that it is a matter of pride for Chaibasa to host the first All India level Rapid Chess Tournament. Purushottam Saraf has been made coordinator of the tournament.

“It is a golden opportunity for the budding talent of Jharkhand to get ranking by participating in this all-India level tournament,” said  Basant  Khandelwal, organising secretary.
