Ranchi, Jan 30: The Jharkhand Police today bid farewell to DG-rank officer Raj Kumar Mallick at a ceremony held at the JAP-1 ground.

Although Mallick, currently serving as DG Headquarters, is set to retire tomorrow, the farewell was organized today since a similar ceremony is scheduled for former DGP Ajay Kumar Singh on January 31. Several senior police officers, including DGP Anurag Gupta, attended Mallick’s send-off.

Ajay Kumar Singh is presently serving as Managing Director of the Jharkhand Police Housing Corporation.

An Untarnished Career

Mallick, a 1992 batch IPS officer, was the first Superintendent of Police (SP) of Bagaha, a police district created following the Narkatiya ‘don’ massacre in 1996. During his tenure, he successfully dismantled nearly all criminal gangs operating in Bagaha, a subdivision of West Champaran, effectively curbing the menace of kidnappings.

Over the years, he served as SP in Sahebganj, Kaimur, Bhojpur, Samastipur, and Gopalganj before being allocated to the Jharkhand cadre. His efforts in Bhojpur are credited with bringing an end to the cycle of caste-based mass killings.

In Jharkhand, Mallick held the post of SP in Chatra, Hazaribagh, Sahebganj, Bokaro, and Dumka, as well as SSP Ranchi and SP CID. He introduced the first CCTV surveillance system in Ranchi and launched Dial 100 across the state.

During his tenure in Chatra, he played a crucial role in restoring police authority. He also survived a narrow escape from death in an IED blast in the region.

After his promotion, he served as DIG Personnel and DIG Ranchi Range, followed by postings as IG Operations, Provisions, Palamu Zone, and Jaguar.

As ADG, he took charge of Operations, Modernization, Special Branch, Communications & Technical Services, JAP, and Headquarters. He also served as CMD of Jharkhand Police Housing Corporation Limited (JPHCL) before being appointed DG Headquarters in October last year, from where he will retire tomorrow.

Notable Achievements

As IG Operations, Mallick spearheaded the first organized operations in Saranda, leading to the success of Operation Anaconda.

As IG Provisions, he oversaw the implementation of the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network & Systems (CCTNS) project, placing Jharkhand among the top five states in the country for law enforcement modernization.

During his tenure, he also oversaw a major modernization initiative, which included:

  • The construction of new police station buildings
  • Establishment of the Constable Training Centre in Musabani
  • Development of the Intelligence Training School (ITS) in Ranchi
  • The Jaguar campus project

Additionally, his tenure saw a significant decline in Naxal violence between 2017-18.
