Daltonganj, Jan. 2: Jharkhand has plunged into political uncertainty following the resignation of JMM MLA Dr Sarfaraz Ahmad.

The Assembly secretariat has issued a notification about the acceptance of the resignation within 24 hours. The ‘Vande Bharat’ train speed of the political event has almost napped the Congress in the state.

Sources in Congress said, “Till noon of the New Year, very few stalwarts in Congress had a copy of the assembly notification of the acceptance of the resignation of JMM MLA Ahmad. And when they learnt about it, their festive spirit diminished.”

JMM’s internal issue

The Congress in Jharkhand is not in any levelling position, politically. Its own house is faction-ridden.

A senior Congress leader in Ranchi requesting anonymity said, “We are in a state of wait and watch. It’s JMM’s internal issue.”

Big brother JMM

When this correspondent interrupted that the Congress can’t stand aloof when its big brother JMM is so deep in trouble, the Congress leader said, “We are keeping watch. It would be too premature to jump to comment. It is a matter of a few weeks from now when the country and Jharkhand will be gearing up for the Lok Sabha election, and here this situation has arisen.”

The Congress has no emergency plan ready to deal with any political turn of event adverse to it electorally.

This correspondent gave three phone calls to Rajesh Thakur, PCC chief here, but he didn’t respond to any of the calls on January 1.
