Dhanbad, Oct 29: In the past 24 hours, Dhanbad police seized a total of Rs 2.43 lakh from two cars at Jharkhand-Bengal border checkpoints, located around 45 kilometres from the district headquarters.
According to police officials, Rs 1.89 lakh was seized from a car at the Maithon interstate checkpoint. The vehicle, traveling from North 24 Parganas in West Bengal to Dhanbad, was found to be carrying cash during a routine inspection.

The passengers, identified as Md Shahwaj Alam and Noor Md, stated they were residents of North 24 Parganas and operated a decorator business, with projects underway in various areas of Dhanbad. However, they could not provide documentation for transporting such a large sum, and the cash was subsequently handed over to the election authorities for further examination.
At the Chirkunda checkpoint, police seized an additional Rs 54,000 from a car travelling from Raniganj, West Bengal, to Dhanbad. The car’s passenger, Anuj Santalika, was unable to provide a satisfactory explanation for carrying the cash into Dhanbad.
