Jharkhand: Prasant Kumar, Suchita Kumari win BIT Sindri ‘Green Marathon’

Dhanbad, January 23: Prasant Kumar Bouri and Suchita Kumari emerged winners in the boys’ and girls’ event in BIT Sindri ‘Green Marathon’ held in the morning today.

The marathon (2.5 km) was organized by BIT Sindri Eco Club and NSS. The BIT Sindri Alumni Association (BITSAA) Dhanbad chapter sponsored this popular mega event.

The Eco Club office bearers said a total of 355 boys and girls (engineering students) of the institution participated in it and completed the distance fixed by organizers.

Akanshit Hembram and Krishna Kisku got second and third positions respectively in the boys’ section while  Nirupma Lakra and  Padyawati Hansda cornered second and third spots in the girls’ event respectively.

The “Green Marathon,” a mega event, was organized in BIT Sindri on January 23, 2024, by BIT Sindri and BITSAA. “Green Marathon’ is one of the 75 events organised by BITSAA to mark the Platinum Jubilee celebration of BIT Sindri.

Athleticism and Ecological Stewardship

BITSAA newly elected secretary Sweta Kumari, DIG, Registration of Jharkhand flagged off the marathon at 8 am at the Administrative Block and after completing the distance of 2.5 km returned through Hostel 26 PMC.

Sweta Kumari, on the occasion, said that the green marathon was not just a race, it’s a celebration of the intersection between athleticism and ecological stewardship. This marathon’s main objective is to create awareness about nature.

“The marathon aimed to raise awareness about the importance of sustainable living. Participants found themselves surrounded by green initiatives, including recycling points.

On the occasion, while addressing the technocrats Prof BD Yadav explained the importance and benefits of the green marathon.

Yogesh Kumar Saw, the president of the Eco Club, and Vivek Kumar orchestrated the Green Marathon and left no stone unturned in making this mega event of campus a success.

This marathon was successfully organized under the guidance of director, Prof Pankaj Rai, Sweta Kumari Secretary BITSAA, Kishor Yadav Secretary ITSAA, Dhanbad chapter, Prof BD Yadav, Prof Raghunandan, Abhishek Tiwary, Uttam K Jha, Manoj Kumar and other faculty members and Eco Club office- bearers as well as activists.
