Dhanbad, Nov 21: Two-day polling for employees’ consent to the indefinite strike in the railway over the Old Pension Scheme began today in Jharkhand-based rail divisions of the East Central Railway (ECR) and South Eastern Railway (SER) zone.

Dhanbad Rail Division senior leader of All India Railway Men’s Federation Nilkamal Khawas said that over 22000 employees working under the Dhanbad division are participating in the two-day polling (November 21-22) over an indefinite all-India strike.

The polling has started in Dhanbad, Ranchi, Chakradharpur, Adra and Asansol divisions whose stations fall in the State.

The Federation has organized a two-day voting across the country to obtain the consent of employees over the proposed indefinite strike for the implementation of the Old Pension Scheme in the Railway.

“If the majority of employees (60%) give consent to the strike through voting, the federation would announce the date of indefinite strike in January or February and duly serve a notice to the government,“ said Nilkamal Khawas.

The voting decision was taken at the Federation’s two-day convention held in Mumbai from November 8-9. The Federation leaders at the meeting suggested that employees’ consent should be taken to an indefinite strike proposal for the Old Pension Scheme.

General Secretary Shiv Gopal Mishra has also announced that the Federation would support the political party which will promise for Old Pension Scheme to railway employees.

For smooth polling in Dhanbad division, East Central Railway Karmchari Union president DK Pandey, additional general secretary Md Jayauddin, assistant general secretary Om Prakash, central treasurer cum Zonal secretary OP Sharma, Subhash, BK Dubey, Somen Dutta, Viswajit Mukherjee are monitoring the process.
