Daltonganj, Feb 9: Raj Bhavan has authorized the in-charge registrar of Nilamber Pitamber University (NPU) to release the salary and pension for January to teachers, non-teaching staff, university officials, and pensioners.
In-charge registrar S.K. Mishra confirmed the development, stating that Raj Bhavan has granted the approval for the disbursement. A letter to this effect has already reached the registrar’s office.
Mishra further stated that the process of salary and pension disbursement is actively underway and will be credited to the respective bank accounts in the coming days.
University Leadership Crisis Delays Payments
The Jharkhand Story had earlier highlighted the plight of pensioners, non-teaching staff, and teachers, as the university remained in a leadership crisis due to the absence of a Vice-Chancellor (VC) and Pro Vice-Chancellor (Pro VC). This situation had put salary and pension payments on hold.

While the post of Pro VC has been vacant since 2023, the VC’s position has remained unfilled since February 1 of this year.
Students’ Concerns Over Administrative Delays
However, various student organizations have criticized Raj Bhavan’s temporary solution regarding salary and pension issues, pointing out that other student-related matters—such as degree issuance, certificates, migration documents, exam schedules, and result declarations—remain stalled due to the absence of senior university officials.
Student bodies are now urging authorities to expedite the appointment of the VC and Pro VC.
