Ranchi, Nov 21: The second edition of the Ranchi District Major Badminton Championship commenced this evening at the Thakur Vishwanath Shahdeo Indoor Stadium, with several young shuttlers securing convincing wins in the opening rounds.
In the girls’ under-15 singles category, Soumya Kumari and Vanya Khanna advanced comfortably. Soumya defeated Yashvi Kejriwal 15-04, 15-10, while Vanya registered a straight-set win over Shambhavi Srivastava.

Strong Start for Boys in Early Matches
In the boys’ under-17 category, Pekma Bhutia beat Anant Raj 15-08, 15-08. In another match, Arul Kumar outplayed Sarthak Soni with a 15-06, 15-03 victory.

Meanwhile, in the boys’ under-15 match, Arun Kumar defeated Anish Singh 15-04, 15-08 to move into the next round.
350 Players to Compete Across Age Groups
Sunil Kumar (IAS), attended the event as the chief guest and officially inaugurated the tournament.
District Badminton Association Secretary N.K. Dey informed that around 350 players from Ranchi are competing across multiple categories, including singles, doubles, mixed doubles, and veteran events.

The veteran category features participants aged 35 to 75 years, with matches scheduled across various age brackets.
Prominent attendees included P.S. Ghoshy, Wasim Akram, Aman Kumar Sahu, K.K. Thakur, Uma Rani Palit, and Anup Singh.
