Dhanbad, Aug 21: The Jharkhand State Senior and Under-19 Badminton Championship-cum-selection trial for the East Zone tournament will be held from August 22 to 24 at the Hazaribagh Indoor Stadium.

The competition will feature leading men’s and women’s players from across the state, including Safi Akram, Priyanshu Tirki, Emmanel Kujur, Manisha Rani Tirki, Shaara Sharma, and several others.

Organizing secretary of the Hazaribagh District Badminton Association (HDBA), Yashvir Singh Jaggi, announced that due to the large number of entries, the inauguration ceremony has been cancelled. Matches will commence directly at 8 am tomorrow.

Events and Categories

Jaggi, who also serves as vice-president of the Jharkhand Badminton Association, confirmed that the championship will include men’s and women’s under-19 singles, doubles, and mixed doubles events.

A total of 44 players will compete in the men’s singles, 13 in the women’s singles, 42 in the boys’ under-19 category, and 19 in the girls’ singles. Participation is also strong in doubles and mixed doubles categories.

Referees and Umpire Panel

The State Badminton Association has deputed an eight-member panel of national-level referees to conduct the matches. Avinash Tiwari has been appointed as the match referee, while Wasim Akram will serve as match controller.

The umpire panel includes Ajit Kumar Singh, Wahid Ansari, Abhishek Kumar, Mintu Vishwakarma, Priyanka Kumari, and Kawanljit Kaur.

Preparations for Smooth Conduct

On Wednesday, HDBA secretary Yashvir Singh Jaggi held an executive committee meeting with senior officials to finalize arrangements for the championship.

Among those present were Prof. Rakho Hari, Dr. V.S.N. Singh, Sanjay Kumar, and other senior members of the association. Officials expressed confidence that the event will be conducted successfully.
