Jamshedpur, Feb 1: Vehicular movement on the Rajnagar-Chaibasa road remained disrupted for hours together on Thursday morning as activists of Aadivasi-Mulvasi Ekta Munch set up road blockades at Rajnagar in protest against the arrest of Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren.

The blockade was set up at Murumdih on the Rajnagar-Chaibasa road in response to a call for the Jharkhand bandh today following the arrest of Hemant Soren.

Though the bandh call was meant for the state, it evoked mild response across the Kolhan except for the Rajnagar block in the Seraikela-Kharsawan district.

The bandh protagonists had set up the blockade by burning tyres at Murumdih and several other streets of the road.

As a result of the blockade, a large number of vehicles, including trucks and trailers remained stranded on either side of the blockade point.

The blockade was lifted after the police persuaded the protestors to withdraw it in view of the inconvenience to the commuters.

While spearheading the stir, one of the protestors said Hemant Soren was first harassed by the ED and later was forced to resign from the post of chief ministership before his arrest.

A Seraikela-based JMM activist Jagatram Murmu said the Seraikela unit of the party had also planned to enforce a bandh in Seraikela, but later called off the plan.

“We were too hurt getting the news of Hemant Soren’s eventual arrest by the ED, but we are now pleased because Champai Soren has been designated to be the new chief minister of the state, said Murmu while talking to The Jharkhand Story.

Significantly, supporters of Champai Soren who is a senior leader of the JMM, had late on Wednesday night rejoiced his nomination as the chief ministerial candidate of the JMM-led Mahagathbandhan following the arrest of Hemant Soren.

Champai Soren is the legislator from the Seraikela constituency and several party supporters had even expressed their happiness by beating ‘nagara.’
