Jharkhand Weather: Thundershowers, lightning and gusty winds likely till May 5

 

Jamshedpur, May 2: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has reported a spell of cooler weather across Jharkhand, with scattered rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds expected over the next few days.

According to IMD data, Ranchi recorded a maximum temperature of 33.6°C, which is 3.5°C below normal, while the minimum temperature settled at 19.0°C, also below the seasonal average. In Jamshedpur, the maximum temperature was 32.0°C, significantly 7.3°C below normal, along with 19.2 mm of rainfall in the past 24 hours.

Daltonganj emerged as the hottest place in Jharkhand with a maximum temperature of 35.0°C, while Lohardaga recorded the lowest minimum temperature at 18.5°C.

Rainfall and Visibility Updates

In terms of rainfall, Manihari in West Singhbhum received the highest precipitation at 41.2 mm, followed by Seraikela (37.5 mm) and Godda (34.2 mm). Ranchi recorded 4.4 mm rainfall during the same period.

Reduced visibility was also reported in Jamshedpur, dropping to 800 metres in the morning hours due to weather conditions.

Data from Automated Weather Stations (AWS) showed moderate temperatures across districts, with Bokaro recording a maximum of 30.2°C and Gumla touching 34.0°C. Several areas, including Baharagora, Darisai, and Khunti, reported light to moderate rainfall.

Jharkhand Weather Forecast (May 2–6)

The IMD weather forecast for Jharkhand indicates continued atmospheric instability, increasing the chances of thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds:

  • May 2: Thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (40–50 kmph) likely in most parts, except northwestern Jharkhand
  • May 3: Similar weather conditions expected, except in western regions
  • May 4–5: Thunderstorms and gusty winds likely at isolated places across the state
  • May 6: No significant weather warning

Residents across Jharkhand have been advised to remain cautious during thunderstorms and lightning activity, avoid open areas, and stay updated with the latest IMD weather alerts.
