Local residents sit on dharna with body for compensation

Dhanbad, Nov 25: Beena  Devi (45), a resident of Reguni Tand Basti, was killed during illegal mining in Tetulmari Colliery of Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) around, 22 km away from here in the morning today.

Crushed to death due to stone felling

The local people said the incident occurred at around 7 am. Like any other day over a dozen local residents were illegally mining in the mines when a heavy chunk of stone fell on Beena Devi. She was crushed to death on the spot.

Basti residents on dharna 

Fearing police and CISF action, the coal thieves first took away the body from the mines.  But at around 9 am rattled by the incident, the residents of the Basti returned to the spot and sat on a dharna with the body on the road demanding compensation for the family of the victim. The dharna was continued at the time of filing the report.

Police, BCCL clueless

Neither police officials nor the authorities of the BCCL/outsourcing company had reached the spot till 1.30 PM.

When contacted, Tetulmari Police Station officer-in-charge Roshan Kumar told media persons that he had no information about illegal mining incidents in the area. He does not know why and where people are demonstrating with a body.

Sona Devi University

The outsourcing company, Chennai Radha Engineering Private Limited, is operating in this colliery of BCCL.
