In a press statement issued on Saturday, Mahto raised questions over the functioning of the state government and the adherence to established political and democratic conventions.

Questions over Opposition access to CM

Mahto referred to a recent attempt by Leader of Opposition Babulal Marandi and BJP state president Aditya Sahu to meet the Chief Minister and submit a memorandum on issues related to the recruitment examinations.

He questioned why the delegation had to approach the Chief Secretary and asked whether the Chief Minister was no longer accessible to Opposition leaders.

Mahto also questioned whether leaders of the ruling alliance, including those from the Congress and JMM, were facing similar difficulties in meeting the Chief Minister.

The AJSU leader’s statement also focused on the CID arrest of a government employee posted in the Chief Secretary’s confidential section in connection with the JPSC-JSSC examination case.

Mahto said the employee was among the main accused in the alleged examination scam and questioned what the arrest had revealed about the functioning of the government machinery.

He sought to know what further action would be taken in the case and whether the government would ensure accountability for those allegedly involved.

Questions governance and democratic conventions

Mahto linked the developments to broader questions about governance, political leadership and the functioning of democratic institutions.

He asked whether the Chief Minister’s office had become less accessible and why the Leader of Opposition was allegedly not being allowed to meet the Chief Minister directly.

He also questioned whether Opposition leaders were being required to route their concerns through ministers or senior officials instead of approaching the Chief Minister.

The AJSU chief said such developments had raised questions among the public about the functioning of the government and its political leadership.

He further questioned whether the government was adequately addressing concerns surrounding the JPSC-JSSC examination cases and ensuring transparency in the investigation.
