Ranchi, Sept 30: The Ranchi district chapter of the Jharkhand State Health Service Association (JSHSA) held an emergency meeting at Sadar Hospital on Monday evening to condemn the abuse, assault, and rude behaviour faced by doctors and health staff.

Over 50 government doctors attended the meeting, where district chapter president Dr. Sujit Kashyap, secretary Dr. Vikash Kumar Gupta, and other office-bearers expressed concern over Sunday’s incident. They warned that doctors would go to any extent to ensure safety if the hospital administration failed to act.

Delegation Meets Civil Surgeon and Deputy Superintendent

Following the meeting, a JSHSA delegation met Ranchi Civil Surgeon Dr. Prabhat Kumar and Sadar Hospital Deputy Superintendent Dr. Bimlesh Kumar, who also serves as JSHSA state president. The delegation highlighted the pressing security challenges faced by doctors at the hospital.

The Ranchi chapter demanded enhanced security at Sadar Hospital, including the deployment of trained guards and an increase in the number of CCTV cameras across the premises.

Administration Promises Safety Measures

Civil Surgeon Dr. Prabhat Kumar and Deputy Superintendent Dr. Bimlesh Kumar assured the delegation that the health department would strengthen security so doctors could work without fear. “All accused have already been arrested. Now we are concentrating on safety measures,” said Dr. Bimlesh Kumar.

Later, Ranchi JSHSA president Dr. Sujit Kashyap and secretary Dr. Vikash Kumar Gupta told the media that doctors were deeply angered by the assault. While most were in favour of a strike, the proposal was withdrawn after the administration lodged an FIR and arrested the accused. “The upcoming Durga Puja festival was also considered before taking this decision,” they added.

IMA Raises Alarm, Seeks Medical Protection Act

The Indian Medical Association (IMA) state chapter also expressed strong concern over the incident at Ranchi Sadar Hospital. IMA state secretary Dr. Pradeep Kumar Singh condemned the attack on Tuesday, noting that such incidents against doctors and health staff are on the rise in Jharkhand.

“Ranchi Sadar Hospital is renowned nationwide for its superspecialty services. But such incidents not only defame Jharkhand but also force doctors to take extreme measures for their safety. IMA urges the state government to take immediate steps to protect doctors,” Dr. Singh said. He once again pressed for the enactment of the Medical Protection Act.
