Bengaluru, March 11: The Karnataka government has tasked Additional Chief Secretary Gaurav Gupta with investigating the possible involvement of DGP rank officer K Ramachandra Rao in the alleged gold smuggling activities of his stepdaughter, Kannada actress Ranya Rao.
The Chief Minister’s office announced the appointment of Gaurav Gupta on Tuesday, confirming that the order was issued late on Monday night.

Currently, Ramachandra Rao holds the position of Managing Director at the Karnataka State Police Housing and Infrastructure Development Corporation.

This investigation follows the seizure of gold bars worth Rs 12.56 crore from Ranya at Kempegowda International Airport. Subsequent searches at her residence led to the recovery of gold jewellery valued at Rs 2.06 crore and Rs 2.67 crore in Indian currency.
